PREVIEW
It would take a collapse of a monumental nature for Manchester United to let slip their 15-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. Even a win for bitter rivals Manchester City would still leave Roberto Mancini’s team a huge task to retain their title and tonight’s fixture looks more about pride than anything else. City are now a huge 110 on BETDAQ to win the league
But, with Wayne Rooney struggling with a hamstring injury and Robin van Persie failing to net on his last nine appearances, Roberto Mancini should fancy his chances of exacting revenge for the 3-2 defeat they suffered at the hands of their neighbours back in December. United have also exited both Europe and the FA Cup in the last month and have hit just two goals in their last three matches.
That December reverse ended City’s remarkable 37-match unbeaten league run at the Etihad and handed United the impetus in the title race, one they have yet to relinquish.
Mancini has effectively accepted the club cannot retain their title and will certainly have eyes firmly fixed on regaining the FA Cup – a trophy that might not be enough to keep him in the City hotseat next term.
There’s no doubt that it’s been a disjointed campaign from the Citizens but the way they swept away Newcastle 4-0 last time out served as a reminder to Ferguson that they are coming to Old Trafford in form.
But they might have to settle for a point at around 3.55 on BETDAQ. Despite United’s indifferent recent form they have failed to win just five of 30 league games and, aside from the 3-2 reverse to Tottenham in December, have won all 14 of their home games.
That defeat to Spurs was also the last time they’ve lost in the league and it’s hard to see them surrendering that record on Monday night.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back the draw at around 3.55 on BETDAQ: 4 points
Sunday: +9.60 points
APRIL RETURN TO DATE: +16.98 points
