PREVIEW
Manchester City’s coach Brian Kidd – an ex-Manchester United player – claimed on Friday that United will suffer jitters as they close in on a 20th league title. But with the gap at the top of the table between Kidd’s team and United standing at 13, and City having just six games to close the gap, we doubt Sir Alex Ferguson will be worrying too much.
City visit Tottenham today knowing that a win will at least keep some sort of pressure on their neighbours and considering they’ve won the last four meetings between the sides they should be feeling confident. They visited White Hart Lane last term and spanked Spurs 5-1 with Edin Dzeko grabbing four.
Tottenham’s top-four bid has stalled of late with Andre Villas-Boas’ men gaining just one win from their last four league games. The absence of star player Gareth Bale through injury, coupled with setbacks to the likes of Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon and a long season, means the north Londoners are in danger of missing out on Champions League football next season.
They could only draw 2-2 with Everton in their last game – a fair result against the resilient Toffees – but City are a better team and, riding the crest of a celebratory wave after reaching the FA Cup final last weekend, they are worthy favourites at 2.35 on BETDAQ.
Roberto Mancini’s men were probably lucky to beat Wigan in the league on Wednesday but they will be up for this game and their superior firepower should see them through.
