PREVIEW
And then there were eight…..
But we’re not sure we are any close to working out who is going to be lifting the trophy after the final at the Estádio do Maracanã.
Three times winners Germany take on France (winners in 1998) in the first quarter final and on paper it should be a cracker.
Despite having 67% of the possession, Joachim Low’s Germany were pushed all the way by Alergia in a match where all the action came in extra time.
France also left their effort late to get to the quarter finals – scoring twice in the last 11 minutes to beat Nigeria. Their defence has been strong all tournament though and have only conceded two goals. It’s certainly a French side in much better shape than we saw at the World Cup in South Africa four years ago.
On balance a draw looks the most likely option after 90 minutes and a low scoring one at that.
