PREVIEW
The first of two mouthwatering Champions League semi-finals kicks off tonight with German champions Bayern Munich taking on Spanish giants Barcelona at the Allianz Arena. It promises to be a thrilling contest with Munich still many people’s dark horses for the competition as they bid to go one better than last year’s final defeat on penalties to Chelsea. Jupp Heynckes’ men are no bigger than 3.8 on BETDAQ to secure a fifth European crown.
Barcelona are just behind Real Madrid at 3.3 in the outright market and there will be many people looking to take them on after they failed to impress in their quarter-final versus Paris St Germain. They squeezed through on away goals two weeks ago and will have to raise their game against a Munich side who romped to a 4-0 aggregate win over Italian champions Juventus last time out.
Aside from a 2-0 defeat at home to Arsenal in the last-16 – where qualification was basically assured having won the away leg 3-1 – Munich have won all of their other home games in this season’s competition and are worthy favourites at a around 2.18 on BETDAQ to win later.
Their rivals have lost away to both Celtic and AC Milan in this competition this term and amazingly have won just one of their last five games in the Champions League. With doubts over the fitness of star player Lionel Messi and up against a formidable home defence, the Catalans look vulnerable tonight and the hosts can take an advantage to the Nou Camp for the return leg.
