The last 10 games between this pair has seen an average of 4.5 goals per game – swayed of course by the 7-2 scoreline in favour of Chelsea in 2010.
The last match-up between these two resulted in an entertaining 4-3 win for Chelsea here and Sunderland played much better than the (current) 24 points difference in the Premier League would otherwise suggest.
Overall though, it’s looking bleak for Sunderland.
They are guaranteed to be bottom of the league at Christmas and Poyet is hoping for a notable cup win to kickstart their campaign.

Mind games of course, but can see Chelsea winning this without the need for extra time.
