Sunderland take a one goal lead to Old Trafford but the fact that they Sunderland have not kept a clean sheet in their last six fixtures will make for a very nervous second leg.
Not surprisingly, Man U are very short on BETDAQ to win this inside 90 minutes at around 1.33 – and it’s easy to get caught up in the current Man U/Moyes hysteria and forget the fact that even allowing for the turbulence they are still a mightily tough team to beat at home and with the damage limitation a convincing win tonight would do tonight for them it’s hard to see them giving up this lightly.
Man U will be without captain Nemanja Vidic as they seek to overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg. The Serb begins a three-match suspension following his sending-off against Chelsea – a defeat could easily have dealt a fatal blow to their Premier League title aspirations and leaves just the Carling Cup as the last realistic chance of silverware this season.
Sunderland are 19 points off Man U in the Premier League and have only won two of their last 25 meetings with the Red Devils in all competitions (L18 D5), though both of these victories have come in the League Cup.
