SHAMROCK AT LISTOWEL: SHAMROCK’S best bet of the day runs in the opening maiden at 2.35.
I was a little wary about napping in the opener as John Oxx has the only debutant in the field with Corbata but the market signals so far on BETDAQ are not pointing strongly in his favour.
So hopefully the coast should be clear for Jim Bolger’s New Alliance to win this.
She is one of two fillies in the race and the cheekpieces are fitted for the first time. A daughter of New Approach she ran well on debut at the Curragh to take third to Aidan O’Brien’s Toogoodtobetrue who has gone on to be placed third in a Group 2, also at the Curragh.
New Alliance was stepped in class herself on her second start and wasn’t totally disgraced in finishing fifth to Jack Naylor in a Group 3 at Leopardstown. Agnes Stewart was second in that race and she went on to win the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster on Saturday.
I fully expected her to be odds on with BETDAQ – so, at the time of writing, the 2.52 on offer to backers looks an absolute dream bet.
Second favourite Smuggler’s Cove is likely to improve from a Roscommon debut fifth but Aidan O’Brien’s colt will surely need to do so significantly to get near the level of form New Alliance has already shown.
