ODDSTRACKER: A week is a long time in Politics, and nothing exemplified that more than the US Presidential Election, so we decided to track how the odds changed for both Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
Tracking the odds in the race for the US Presidency
It’s been one of the most nail-biting, though at times prolonged, races in US political history. Joe Biden and Donald Trump have gone hammer and tongs over the last few months as they campaigned to become the 46th President of the United States.
The odds have swung this way and that over the past week or so, and we’ve taken a look at how the picture has changed dramatically on a number of occasions in this week’s Oddstracker.
As America begun voting on Tuesday, Democrat Biden was a solid 1.5 favourite, with the Republican representative Trump 2.4 to continue his reign in the White House.
However, things changed quickly on Wednesday as Trump was now the clear favourite at 1.62, despite being behind in votes, with Biden’s odds on the drift at 2.2.
Trump then declared victory soon after seeing his price shorten further to 1.44 and Biden out to 2.63 as confidence grew that Trump was going to remain in the White House for another four years.
Things once again took another dramatic turn, though, as support for Biden increased with projections suggesting he had the upper hand in several key states such as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
The balance of power was seemingly shifting as Biden shot clear in the race with 224 predicted votes compared to Trump’s 213 and the odds reflected the shift with Biden now the market leader at 1.8.
A victory in one of the swing states, Michigan, was seen as key in the 77-year-old emerging victorious and once he was predicted to take the state, he was just 1.22 for victory with Trump out to 3.75.
It looked bleak for Trump and the writing was seemingly on the wall when his opponent went ahead in Pennsylvania, Georgia and then in a number of other states too.
Though Biden is still trading at just 1.04 and Trump 9.0, it’s pretty clear we’ll have a new face at the head of affairs in America very soon.
