PREMIER LEAGUE SATURDAY: We preview Saturday’s two Premier League games between EVERTON v CRYSTAL PALACE (12.30pm) and BRIGHTON v WATFORD (5.30pm) both with a recommended BETDAQ bet and extended match stats.

EVERTON V CRYSTAL PALACE

12.30pm We have shortened Premier League fixture list this weekend as clubs take a much needed break. We’ll have the same situation next weekend when the clubs playing this weekend get some time off and it’s a nice feature after a very hectic December and January. We start the weekend as Crystal Palace travel to Everton after losing their last two fixtures which came as a surprise after managing to draw with Arsenal and Manchester City. Palace are just outside the worrying bottom six but if they don’t start picking up points they will get dragged into a fight very quickly.

The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Everton 1.67, Crystal Palace 6.8 and the draw is 3.85. Everton have definitely improved since Ancelotti came in. Since Marco Silva was sacked, only Liverpool have won more points than Everton. A remarkable turnaround given how poor they were playing. They are definitely better having home advantage too and with Palace struggling for home we like the home win at 1.67. A confident Everton can get the job done.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Everton to beat Crystal Palace at 1.67.

MATCH STATS

  • Everton are unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League meetings with Crystal Palace (W4 D6), keeping a clean sheet in each of the last three.
  • Four of Crystal Palace’s five Premier League wins against Everton have been at Goodison Park (80%), though their last win there was in September 2014. At no side have they won more Premier League away games as they have against the Toffees (also 4 vs Leicester).
  • After losing eight of their last 11 Premier League games under Marco Silva (W2 D1), Everton have lost just one of their last 10 under Duncan Ferguson/Carlo Ancelotti (W5 D4). Indeed, only Liverpool (30) have won more points over their last 10 Premier League games than Everton (19).
  • Crystal Palace have won just one of their last 10 Premier League games (D6 L3), with the Eagles winless in six since beating West Ham in December (D4 L2).
  • Crystal Palace are without a clean sheet in nine Premier League games, the longest current run in the competition. However, the Eagles have only conceded more than once in two of those nine games.
  • Everton have scored a league-high 61% of their Premier League goals in the first half of games this season (19/31). Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have scored the lowest ratio before half-time (23%), with just five of their 22 goals coming in the opening 45 minutes.
  • Crystal Palace have had fewer shots on target than any other Premier League side this season (77). Their rate of 3.1 shots on target per game is the Eagles’ lowest in a single campaign in the competition that we have on record (since 1997-98).
  • The average age of Crystal Palace’s starting XI in the Premier League this season is 29y 230d, the oldest in the competition in 2019-20. The Eagles are the only side yet to start a player under the age of 23 this term, with Jairo Riedewald their youngest starter (23y 98d).
  • Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the highest Premier League goalscorer this season among players who haven’t provided a single assist so far (10).
  • Theo Walcott 90th minute winner in Everton’s last game against Watford was his first goal in 18 Premier League games this season – he last scored in consecutive league games in August 2018.

BRIGHTON V WATFORD

5.30pm This is a huge game towards the bottom of the Premier League table. Brighton are currently in 15th and while Watford are down in 19th, they are only three points behind Brighton. Things are desperately tight and with Bournemouth and Aston Villa picking up points recently – the pressure is really on here. Watford have been stopped in their tracks in the last few weeks by Aston Villa and Everton, but prior to that they had been on a good run. To be honest they looked certain to go down, but now they have given themselves a fighting chance of staying up.

The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Brighton 2.2, Watford 3.75 and the draw is 3.5. Brighton are very close to repeating last season. They started off playing some very good football and picking up wins, but now in the second half of the season they have hit the wall. They have won just once in their last ten Premier League games and although they are playing a team below them here; Watford probably come into the game with more confidence. We expect a very close game here, a lot closer than odds of 2.2 on Brighton suggest and from a value point of view we have to lay the home win.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Lay Brighton at 2.2.

MATCH STATS

  • Brighton are looking to secure their first league double over Watford since 1990-91, when the sides were playing in the second tier.
  • Watford have lost just one of their last seven away league games against Brighton (W3 D3), though that defeat did come in the Premier League in December 2017 (0-1).
  • Brighton won the reverse fixture against Watford 3-0 on the opening weekend of the season, scoring more goals in that victory as they had in their previous seven league meetings with the Hornets combined (2).
  • Brighton have won just one of their last 10 Premier League games (D5 L4), a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth in December. Indeed, no side has won fewer Premier League points in 2020 than the Seagulls (3).
  • Watford have lost their last two Premier League games, conceding five goals in these matches; this following a run where they’d lost just one of eight league games (W4 D3), across which they’d shipped just four goals.
  • Brighton have conceded three goals in each of their last two Premier League games, losing at Bournemouth before drawing with West Ham. They’d only conceded 3+ goals in two of their first 23 games under Graham Potter this season.
  • Watford have lost 15 points from losing positions in the Premier League this season, including six across their last two matches. Only in 2017-18 (21) have they lost more in a single campaign in the competition.
  • Watford have become the seventh team to lose consecutive Premier League games thanks to goals scored in the 90th minute, and the first since Swansea in September 2017. No side has ever lost three consecutive games in such a fashion in the competition.
  • Glenn Murray netted his first league goal of the season in Brighton’s 3-3 draw with West Ham last time out – at 36y 129d, he’s the oldest player to score in the Premier League this season.
  • Since Nigel Pearson’s first game in charge of Watford, only Mohamed Salah and Sergio Agüero (7 each) have scored more Premier League goals than Troy Deeney (5). Indeed, in the same timeframe, the Watford skipper has been involved in more top-flight goals than any other English player in the competition (6 – 5 goals, 1 assist).
