PREMIER LEAGUE: We preview Sunday’s two Premier League games with extended stats and a recommended BETDAQ bets. It’s MAN CITY v SOUTHAMPTON and CHELSEA v CRYSTAL PALACE.
MANCHESTER CITY V SOUTHAMPTON
3pm Manchester City have been very busy lately but that comes with fighting for many competitions. They grinded out a 1-0 win on a tough pitch at Wembley against Spurs on Monday night and then had League Cup action on Thursday – now they face the struggling Southampton. The markets are expecting a very easy home win, with the match odds at the time of writing currently trading; Manchester City 1.12, Southampton 34.0 and the draw is 11.5.
Southampton have managed two draws in a row coming into this game to edge away from the bottom three however both these games have been 0-0. They haven’t scored for five games in the Premier League now and their problems in front of goal are getting worse and not better. That was the problem when they were fighting to stay up last season and this season seems to be very similar so far.
City will have no problems in front of goal as we have seen many times this season and this could be a very high score. Southampton haven’t shown any signs of being able to cope with a side on City this season and their main aim will be to defend. We can’t see City not scoring heavily here and we like Any Other Home Win (City to score four or more and win) in the Correct Score market at 2.3.

MATCH STATS
- Manchester City have won seven of their last nine Premier League meetings with Southampton, drawing one and losing one.
- In all competitions, Southampton are winless in their last eight visits to the Etihad (D1 L7) since winning their first ever match at the ground (3-1 in April 2004).
- Both of Man City’s wins against Southampton in the Premier League last season came courtesy of 90 th minute winning strikes – Raheem Sterling in the home game and Gabriel Jesus away.
- Southampton have failed to score in their last five Premier League games – they have never failed to score in six consecutive top-flight games.
- Man City are looking to keep a clean sheet in seven consecutive league games for the first time in their entire history.
- Since returning to the Premier League in the 2012-13 season, Southampton have drawn 25 matches goalless – two more than any other side.
- Man City are unbeaten in all 19 Premier League matches when Aymeric Laporte has played (W17 D2 L0) – he has played more games without losing than any other player in the history of the competition, ending on the winning side in all 10 home games.
- Since the start of last season, Man City’s Raheem Sterling has scored 14 goals and assisted seven more in just 18 Premier League appearances at the Etihad Stadium.
- Man City goalkeeper Ederson has kept a clean sheet in each of his last six Premier League starts – the last goalkeeper to keep seven in a row was Edwin van der Sar in February 2009 (14 in a row).
- Among sides ever-present in the Premier League since Mark Hughes’ first game in charge of Southampton, only Huddersfield Town (1) have won fewer games than Saints (3) – in that same timeframe, opponents Man City have won the most games (14).
CHELSEA V CRYSTAL PALACE
4pm Crystal Palace would have been very happy with a point against Arsenal last weekend given the way in which Arsenal have been playing; however they face a tougher task this weekend! They had home advantage last weekend against Arsenal; they now have to go play away from home against a better quality side.
Chelsea aren’t quite as short as Manchester City in the 3pm game however the markets are expecting another easy home win nonetheless. The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Chelsea 1.28, Crystal Palace 13.5 and the draw is 6.6. Chelsea come into this tie in red hot form in front of goal – they have netted 15 goals in their last five games in all competitions.
Palace will need to pick themselves up after crashing out of the League Cup during the week and if Chelsea score early we could see a bloodbath. Palace do have a good recent record against Chelsea though – however this Chelsea side looks much improved compared to recent seasons and we’re happy to back Any Other Home Win at 4.0 in the Correct Score market which looks too big.
BETDAQ BEST BET:
Any Other Home Win at 4.0.
