PREMIER LEAGUE SUNDAY: We preview Sunday’s Premier League matches with recommended BETDAQ bets and extended match stats. MANCHESTER UNITED v EVERTON, WOLVES v TOTTENHAM and ARSENAL v MANCHESTER CITY.

MANCHESTER UNITED V EVERTON

2pm What an interesting fixture to kick off Super Sunday in the Premier League! Manchester United come into this game on a high after win against Spurs and Manchester City, while they also won 4-0 here midweek to land top spot in their Europa League Group. Football moves fast, and now there aren’t any calls for the manager to leave like we seen after the 2-2 draw here against Aston Villa. Everton have had a chance in manager and they responded with a 3-1 win against Chelsea last weekend. This will be a tough fixture for United with Everton on a high under caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson.

The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Manchester United 1.8, Everton 5.2 and the draw is 3.85. Although Untied have been impressive in recent weeks and Everton have been struggling, you still have to feel United are a little short at 1.8. They have been very up-and-down this season and if Ferguson can get Everton playing like last week, we’re bound to have a closer game than odds of 1.8 suggest. We much prefer over 2.5 goals at 1.85 – both teams have been in the goals lately and we expect Everton to attack under Ferguson which should make for an open game.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Over 2.5 goals at 1.85.

MATCH STATS

  • Manchester United have won 36 of their 54 Premier League games against Everton (D9 L9), more than any side has won against another in the history of the competition.
  • Everton have won just one of their last 26 Premier League away games against Man Utd (D5 L20), winning 1-0 at Old Trafford in December 2013.
  • Everton won their last Premier League meeting with Man Utd – 4-0 at Goodison Park in April. They’ve not won consecutive league games against the Red Devils since completing the double over them in 2013-14.
  • Manchester United are looking to win three consecutive Premier League games for the first time since winning their first six under Ole Gunnar Solskjær back in January.
  • Everton beat Chelsea in their last Premier League match, and are looking for back-to-back victories in the competition for the first time since winning three in April; a run which began with a home victory over Chelsea.
  • Manchester United have fielded five different teenagers in the Premier League this season, more than any other side (Chong, Garner, Gomes, Greenwood, Williams). Indeed, only in 1994-95 and 2015-16 (both six) have they fielded more different teenage players during the course of a Premier League campaign.
  • Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson has scored four goals in his last five Premier League away games against Manchester United. Indeed, in Premier League history only Steven Gerrard (5) has scored more goals at Old Trafford as a visiting player than Sigurdsson (4).
  • Man Utd’s Marcus Rashford has already equalled his best ever Premier League goal tally in a single season (10) in 16 games this season (10 in 33 apps in 2018-19). The Englishman has scored seven goals in eight league appearances at Old Trafford this season – no other Man Utd player has scored more than two at home.
  • Everton’s Richarlison has scored four goals in his last five Premier League games (including netting in three games in a row for the first time in the competition), more than he’d netted in his previous 17 league matches (3).
  • As a player, Everton caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson scored more Premier League goals against Man Utd than he did against any other side (7 goals in 16 games). However, the Scotsman also lost more games against the Red Devils than any other team (10).

WOLVES V TOTTENHAM

2pm Jose Mourinho suffered his second loss against manager of Spurs during the week as he watched his side lose 3-1 away to Bayern Munich. At least they didn’t concede seven this time! Wolves ran out easy 4-0 winners at home in the Europa League and this will be an excellent test to see where Mourinho has his Spurs side. If he wants to finish in the top four, they need to be winning games like this one. Wolves have been rock solid lately.

The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Wolves 3.35, Tottenham 2.32 and the draw is 3.55. The problem for Spurs this season has been at the back – they have simply conceded too many goals. When you look at Wolves’ results you can see they have been scoring plenty and we feel that the 2.32 on Spurs is just too short away from home against a side like Wolves. Spurs have been outscoring sides like Bournemouth, West Ham and Olympiakos but they won’t be able to do that against a solid side like Wolves. We’re happy to lay the 2.32.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Lay Tottenham at 2.32.

MATCH STATS

  • Wolves won their last Premier League meeting with Spurs – 3-1 at Wembley in December 2018. They’ve not won consecutive games against them since completing the league double over them in the 2009-10 campaign.
  • Spurs have only lost one of their five Premier League away games against Wolves (W3 D1), going down 0-1 in February 2010.
  • Wolves are now unbeaten in 11 Premier League games (W5 D6), last having a longer run without defeat in the top-flight between February-September 1959 (18).
  • Since the start of last season, Wolves have taken more points from the 2018-19 top six than any other side who finished outside of these places last term (21 – W5 D6 L5).
  • Tottenham have won three of their four Premier League matches under José Mourinho (L1), as many as they did in their final 15 under Mauricio Pochettino (W3 D6 L6). They’ve scored three goals-per-game under Mourinho, compared to 1.3 in those final 15 under Pochettino.
  • Tottenham have lost 10 of their last 14 Premier League away games (W1 D3) – their previous 10 defeats on the road came across a 44-game spell. Indeed, Spurs last suffered more away league defeats in a single calendar year back in 2006 (11).
  • Tottenham have faced 58 shots on target in away games in the Premier League this season, more than any other side. Indeed, their record of facing 7.3 shots on target per away game is the highest on record for the London side (since 2003-04) and the highest of any Premier League team since Fulham in 2013-14 (7.6).
  • Raúl Jiménez has been directly involved in 40% of Wolves’ 191 shots in the Premier League this season (49 shots, 28 chances created) – the highest ratio of any player in the division.
  • Tottenham’s Dele Alli has been involved in eight Premier League goals in nine games this season (5 goals, 3 assists), as many as he was in 25 appearances in the competition last season (5 goals, 3 assists).
  • Harry Kane has scored nine Premier League goals this season, and could become the first player to score 10+ in six consecutive top-flight campaigns for Spurs since Robbie Keane (2002-03 to 2007-08).

ARSENAL V MANCHESTER CITY

4.30pm This is an excellent way to end the day, and we can expect plenty of drama between these too! Surely we’re bound to see a goal-fest with the way both sides have been defending. City are under immense pressure after dropping more points in the title race against Manchester United last weekend, while Arsenal got back to winning ways against West Ham on Monday. Both sides are having poor seasons by their own standards.

The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Arsenal 6.2, Manchester City 1.49 and the draw is 5.8. It’s hard to believe how bad Arsenal have become since Wenger left, they sat down in 9th at the start of the weekend – however they are only a few points away from the top six. It will be very interesting to see how Guardiola handles the fact his title challenge is over by Christmas and City are a little short here 1.49 given how they’ve been playing. We’ve had success laying City in recent weeks and given how many goals are expected between these two, we’re happy to lay City at the odds. We expect a drama filled game!

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Lay Manchester City at 1.49.

  • Arsenal have conceded the first goal in each of their last five Premier League games – they’ve never conceded first in six consecutive matches in the competition. However, no side has won more points from losing positions in the Premier League this season than the Gunners (10).
  • Man City’s Sergio Agüero has scored eight goals in his last eight appearances against Arsenal in all competitions. Since the Argentine joined Man City in 2011, he’s scored more goals against the Gunners in all competitions than any other player (11).
  • Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette is the highest Premier League scorer this season with 100% of his goals coming at home (5). Meanwhile, Man City’s Gabriel Jesus is the highest scorer with 100% of his goals coming in away games (5).
  • Gabriel Martinelli scored on his first Premier League start for Arsenal in their 3-1 win at West Ham. Only three players have scored on both of their first two starts in the competition for the Gunners (Ian Wright in 1992, Davor Suker in 1999, Alex Iwobi in 2016).
