PREMIER LEAGUE SUNDAY: We preview Sunday’s two Premier League games with a recommended BETDAQ bet and extended match stats. It’s BURNLEY v ARSENAL at 2pm and SPURS v MAN CITY at 4.30pm.

BURNLEY V ARSENAL

2pm We have a fantastic Sunday of action ahead! Spurs meet Manchester City later but to kick the day off we have Burnley hosting Arsenal. You’ll always have a question about backing Arsenal away from home and with Burnley generally being a solid team we face the same question again today. Can you trust Arsenal away from home? You might see a stat this weekend saying Arsenal are unbeaten in six away games; however five of those games have ended with a draw and if you were laying them, you’d still be very happy.

The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Burnley 3.95, Arsenal 2.06 and the draw is 3.75. Burnley actually have a terrible record against Arsenal – they’ve lost their last 11 matches across all competitions. It’s fair to say though that Arsenal have got a lot worse since Wenger left, and as we seen with Bournemouth in the FA Cup – Arsenal always struggle away from home even when the opposition are playing poor football heading into the fixture. With five draws from their last six away, we’re happy to lay Arsenal again here at 2.06 – those odds are just too short for a side like Arsenal and we’re very happy with the away lay.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Lay Arsenal at 2.06.

MATCH STATS

  • Burnley have lost their last 11 matches against Arsenal in all competitions, a run stretching back to March 2010.
  • Arsenal have won their last 10 league games against Burnley – they last won 11 in a row against an opponent between 1994 and 2004 against Man City.
  • Burnley haven’t led for a single minute in 11 Premier League games against Arsenal. The only team to have played more games against an opponent without ever leading is Portsmouth against Chelsea (14 games).
  • None of Burnley’s last 17 Premier League games have ended level, with the Clarets winning seven and losing 10. Burnley have won two in a row on three separate occasions in that run (including a current run), but haven’t won three in a row in the competition since April 2019.
  • Arsenal are unbeaten in their last six Premier League away games (W1 D5), drawing each of the last four in a row. They’ve not drawn five consecutive away league games since August 1948.
  • Burnley manager Sean Dyche’s record of losing all nine of his Premier League games against Arsenal is the joint-worst 100% losing record against an opponent in the history of the competition, along with Eddie Howe against Manchester City and Gary Megson against Liverpool.
  • Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored seven goals in four Premier League appearances against Burnley, averaging a goal every 51 minutes; among players with 300 or more minutes against an opponent, only Luis Suárez against Norwich (one goal every 45 minutes) averages a better minutes-per-goal ratio in Premier League history.
  • Burnley’s Chris Wood has scored 10 goals in 22 Premier League games this season – in no campaign has he scored more in the competition (also 10 in 2018-19 and 2017-18). It’s the sixth occasion of a Burnley player reaching double figures in a season in the competition, with Wood responsible for three of those.
  • 18-year-old Bukayo Saka has more assists in all competitions than any other Arsenal player this season (7). Meanwhile, fellow 18-year-old Gabriel Martinelli is the Gunners’ second highest scorer in all competitions this term (10).
  • Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli is looking to become only the fourth player aged under-19 to score in three consecutive Premier League appearances, after Danny Cadamarteri (October 1997, Everton), Michael Owen (December 1997 and May 1998, Liverpool) and Francis Jeffers (May 1999, Everton).

TOTTENHAM V MANCHESTER CITY

4.30pm Hopefully we get as much drama as we seen when Manchester City hosted Spurs at the start of the season! Or when the sides met last season in the Champions League. Manchester City haven’t been at their best this season and that in reflected in the league table – they also lost to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup midweek, although they did have a big cushion from the first leg. You just feel something isn’t right with City this season though, they just aren’t clicking together.

The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Tottenham 6.0, Manchester City 1.59 and the draw is 4.8. Jose Mourinho seems to have solved Spurs’ problems at the back, but it has come at a cost of scoring goals. If only he could get both working together now! We expect a close game here and from a value point of view, we have to lay City at the odds. 1.59 is simply too short for a game like this. Spurs have improved at the back and with City struggling to hit top form this season, 1.59 is a cracking lay.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Lay Manchester City at 1.59.

MATCH STATS

  • Tottenham are winless in six Premier League games against Manchester City (D2 L4) since a 2-0 win in October 2016 at White Hart Lane.
  • In all competitions, Manchester City have lost three of their last five away matches against Spurs (W2), losing their most recent game in April 2019 in the Champions League.
  • Manchester City have won their last five Premier League away games in north London (vs Arsenal and Tottenham) – as many as they had in their first 40 such games in the competition (W5 D10 L25). No team has ever won six consecutive top-flight away games against the two sides.
  • Only versus Everton (26) have Tottenham won more Premier League matches than they have against Manchester City (23). Indeed, seven of Spurs’ last 10 league wins against Man City have come on home soil.
  • Tottenham have lost two of their six home league matches under José Mourinho (W4), as many as they lost in their final 15 home games under Mauricio Pochettino (W9 D4).
  • Manchester City have scored in each of their last 23 Premier League away games, since a 0-2 loss at Chelsea in December 2018 – only Arsenal (27 in November 2002) and Manchester United (24 in August 2002) have had longer such runs in the competition’s history.
  • This is the 23rd meeting in all competitions between Spurs boss José Mourinho and Man City’s Pep Guardiola – Mourinho has lost 10 games against the Spaniard, four more than he has against any other manager.
  • Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has ended on the winning side in 42 of his 49 Premier League appearances – the record for wins in the first 50 games for any player is 42, shared by Didier Drogba, Arjen Robben and Ederson.
  • Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne became the first player in Premier League history to provide 15+ assists in three different campaigns (15 in 2019-20, 16 in 2017-18 and 18 in 2016-17). In fact, De Bruyne has averaged an assist every 180 minutes in the Premier League – the best such ratio in the competition’s history (min. 20 assists).
  • Tottenham’s Dele Alli has had a hand in nine goals in 16 games under Jose Mourinho in all competitions (6 goals, 3 assists), three times as many as he’d registered under Mauricio Pochettino this season (2 goals, 1 assist in 10 apps).
