CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TUESDAY: We look ahead to the first semi-final between Bayern Munich v Atletico Madrid with the match delicately poised after the first leg in Spain.
Bayern Munich v Atletico Madrid 7-45
The wonderful attacking Bayern Munich against the superb defensive skills of Atletico Madrid, this should be a highly interesting game to watch. 20 from 29 teams who have won 1-0 at home in the first leg of a Champions League knockout have progressed to the next round which is an interesting stat – Bayern are 1.61 in the 90 minutes market while Atletico are 1.78 in the To Qualify market.
While Bayern have won their last 11 straight games at home in the Champions League, scoring 41 and only conceding six – you would have to slightly lean towards Atletico qualifying, they have kept 15 clean sheets in their last 20 games in the Champions League, an incredible stat when you think about it, and Bayern have only managed one clean sheet in their last five knockout games – one feels that Atletico can certainly nick a goal on the break here, and will no doubt defend well.
Under 2.5 goals is an obvious place to start given the Atletico clean sheet record, and with a 1-0 lead coming into this tie, it’s hard to see how they set up anything but defensively – under 2.5 is trading around the 1.8 mark at the moment and that looks to be a shade of value, even allowing for Bayern’s goal scoring record at home. For those a lot braver, 0-0 at full time is currently 10.5.
The score at half-time is an interesting one, you’d imagine that Bayern won’t go too mad to start with only needing one goal to force extra time, and with Atletico sitting back (you’d imagine), it could be a cagey start to the game – 0-0 at half-time is currently trading around 2.9 and that is certainly of interest too.
