PURPLE PATCH: This week’s in-form sportstar is Dustin Johnson, whi is enjoying an incredible Purple Patch on the PGA Tour which was capped off with a win at the Tour Championship.

World #1 has hit the heights at the right time

It’s been quite a month or so for Dustin Johnson and at BETDAQ we’ve traced the big-hitting American’s recent ‘Purple Patch’ which has seen him rise to the top of the world rankings once again.

Things looked pretty bleak for the 36-year-old in July, where having shot two 80s to miss the cut at the Memorial Tournament, he withdrew from the 3M Open the following week citing a back problem.

However, he recovered quickly to finish in a tie for 12th at the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational soon after, before coming agonisingly close to a second Major at last month’s PGA Championship at Harding Park.

Johnson shot four rounds in the 60s there which followed four sub-par rounds the week before and, incredibly, Johnson has only had two rounds which haven’t been under par since that withdrawal at the 3M Open.

He put that PGA disappointment behind him with one of the greatest performances for a long time at the Northern Trust, where he finished demolished his rivals shooting a staggering 30 under par to win by a mere 11 shots.

Some might have thought that such an imperious performance would have taken a lot out of him, but Johnson showed no ill effects the following week, where had it not been for a unlikely 66-foot winning put on the first play-off hole from Jon Rahm, Johnson would have been celebrating again.

Although he was just touched off by Rahm there, he still entered the Tour Championship, the final event of the 2019/20 PGA Tour season, as the number one seed and very much the one to beat.

His recent performances meant he started with a two-shot advantage at 10 under par and although both Xander Schauffele and Justin Thomas pushed him hard, Johnson proved too good as he won the both the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup.

A final round 68 meant he’s played his last 20 rounds in a staggering 64 under par and to cap it all off he’s nearly £15 million richer.

Johnson is back at the top of the world rankings and based on his recent showings, it’s going to take a very good one to remove him.
