How the world number one has become a master at Augusta
They say Augusta National is a golf course that takes a bit of time to get used to and with Dustin Johnson that’s very much the case.
In his first five starts, his best finish was a never-threatening 13th, but since then it’s a course he has flourished at.
Since 2015, he has played in the tournament on five occasions and has failed to finish outside of the top 10.
He was second in 2019 and then stormed to a commanding and record breaking victory in November last year.
His victory six months ago meant he’s 49 under par for his last five starts at Augusta and the impressive run of form has seen him accrue £2.85m in prize money at the famous Georgian course.
As mentioned, DJ broke a number of records when he won his second Major title here in November with his score of 20 under par the lowest 72-hole score in the tournament’s history.
In shooting that number, he tied the lowest score in a Major, while his four bogeys was the fewest ever by a Masters winner.
His remarkable five-shot victory was also the largest winning margin at the tournament since Tiger Woods won the 1997 edition by 12 strokes.
The American hasn’t been in quite the same form this season, but there’s plenty to suggest a return to Augusta might reignite the fire.
