Since taking over in late 2016, the 50-year-old has pieced together a method which has served him well as the results show.
He’s managed England 59 times so far and has masterminded 40 wins in those matches for a 68% win rate.
His side have drawn on nine other occasions and impressively only lost 10 times.
Southgate is known for his pragmatic approach, with a sturdy defence an important part of his methodology, but his side have still scored 129 goals since he began the role – an average of over two goals per game.
Given his pragmatic approach, it’s unsurprising that his England team have conceded less than a goal a game in his time in charge, with the Three Lions shipping just 46 goals under Southgate.
He of course led England to a World Cup semi-final in 2018 and with them just two victories away from Euros glory, Southgate is close to etching his name among his country’s greatest ever managers.
