PURPLE PATCH: Ahead of this weekend’s races we look at Godolophin’s impressive record at Ascot.
There aren’t many more famous silks in horse racing than the famous blue ones of Godolphin.
The ‘boys in blue’ have been at the front and centre of Flat racing for years and although they endured a quiet patch a few seasons back, they have come back booming.
This season, in particular, they’ve enjoyed a really good time of it winning the Derby, Irish Derby as well as getting on the scoresheet a number of times at Royal Ascot.
Their Derby winner, Adayar, lines up in the King George at Ascot this weekend and his owners will be very hopeful of extending an already impressive recent record at the Berkshire track.
Over the last five years, Godolphin have had 35 winners at Ascot from 270 runners – a strike rate of 13% – while they have had a further 56 horses placed.
Their success is well charted in the prize money they’ve won with the £4,081,997 accrued the most at any UK track in that five-year time period.
Should Adayar emerge victorious on Saturday, he’d be the latest in a long line of horses that have excelled in Godolphin’s colours at Ascot.
