PURPLE PATCH: Can Reds pick up from where they left off last season vs Norwich?
As we approach a new Premier League season this weekend, Liverpool of all teams may be feeling more upbeat about the new campaign if the back-end of last term’s form is anything to go by.
While Jurgen Klopp’s side ultimately endured a frustrating season last year, failing to successfully defend their Premier League title while finishing a mammoth 17 points behind winners Manchester City, no other team finished the campaign in better style than the Reds.
Across the final 10 games of the league season, Liverpool picked up eight wins and two draws, without a single defeat, to claim an impressive 26 points out of 30, with victories coming over sides including Manchester United and Arsenal.
They also managed to score 21 goals in that time, while conceding just six and registering five clean sheets in the process.
Such form helped the Reds secure a Champions League spot on the final day of the season, and going into the new campaign, they’ll have reason to be optimistic about a strong start given they open proceedings against Norwich on Saturday.
That’s because Liverpool have enjoyed great success over the Canaries in recent years, claiming eight wins and two draws from their last 10 meetings, without suffering a single defeat.
In that time, the Merseyside club have also scored a whopping 33 goals while conceding 12, with a goals per game ratio of 3.3.
What’s more, seven of those 10 meetings saw Liverpool score three or more goals, including in 5-2, 5-0 and 5-1 victories – so Reds fans should have every reason to be feeling more than confident that they can hit the ground running this season when the Premier League kicks off this weekend.
