PURPLE PATCH: After yet another Australian Open triumph, Novak Djokovic remains the top dog in Melbourne, and his impressive form Down Under is the feature for this week’s Purple Patch.

As Novak Djokovic celebrates yet another Australian Open title, at BETDAQ we’ve taken a look back at the Serbian’s imperious record in Melbourne.

His win on Sunday was the ninth time he has won the first Grand Slam of the year and perhaps even more impressively, it meant that he’s now nine from nine when playing in the final.

Some players, take Daniil Medvedev for example, can struggle under the pressure of a Grand Slam final, but if anything, Djokovic seems to thrive under it as his perfect record in Melbourne finals shows.

The victory over Medvedev meant he’s now won all 42 matches he’s played in the tournament as the number one seed and although he’s well into his 30s now, it does seem he’s going to be very hard to displace as the king of the Aussie hardcourts.

It was the 18th Grand Slam of his illustrious career, meaning he’s just one behind Rafael Nadal and two behind Roger Federer, showing what an incredible generation of tennis players we’ve been treated to over the past couple of decades.

As if he hasn’t broken enough records in Australia, it was Novak’s 12th Grand Slam title on hard courts – a new record – while it’s the 16th straight year he’s won a singles title.

Not a bad record is it?
