PURPLE PATCH: Rangers are on a mission this season to stop their biggest rivals claiming a tenth straight league title and their unbeaten run has put them in a fantastic position to do so.
Could Gerrard’s Gers be marching to the title?
When Rangers appointed former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard as their new manager in May 2018, many hoped he would, in time, bring success to the Glasgow club. However, it’s pretty fair to say that few thought it would happen quite as quickly as it has.
From lifting the Champions League trophy in 2005 to that infamous slip in 2014, Gerrard saw many highs and lows during his playing career and in recent years, Rangers have seen their fair share too.
Having virtually gone under in 2012, the club has slowly risen back up to once again become one of the leading forces in Scottish football.
Despite said progress, Rangers still failed to bridge the gap between themselves and arch rivals Celtic, finishing nine points behind in 2018/19 and 13 adrift last season.
Such margins left much for Gerrard and Co to work on over the off-season, but whatever they worked on has clearly made a huge difference with the blue half of Glasgow scaling new heights so far this campaign.
Gerrard’s side are unbeaten in their 16 matches played in the Scottish Premiership, winning 14 and drawing just twice.
Perhaps even more impressively, they’ve scored 45 goals in those 16 encounters, while they’ve only had their defence breached three times.
The imperious start to the new campaign has unsurprisingly seen them set the pace at the top of the table, with their lead currently 13 points clear of Celtic.
If they maintain such form, it looks as if Gerrard might finally lift a league title after all.
