PURPLE PATCH: This week we take a look at Rory McIlroy’s form at the PGA Championship ahead of the 2021 edition starting on Thursday.
As Rory McIlroy returns to Kiawah Island for the PGA Championship, he’ll have fond memories of not only playing the course he won the tournament at in 2012, but also of taking part in one he usually flourishes at.
We’ve taken a look at the Northern Irishman’s impressive record in this week’s Purple Patch.
McIlroy has played the Major 12 times in his career so far and he really has excelled, making the cut 11 times.
He’s made the top-25 on eight occasions and has finished inside the top-10 six times too.
His impressive form doesn’t end there as Rory came third in back-to-back runnings of the PGA in 2009 and 2010.
The highlight, of course, has been the two victories with the eight-shot win at Kiawah Island in 2012 followed by a one-shot win at Valhalla two years later.
Many argue Rory was at the peak of his powers when he won the tournament in 2012 and given he comes into this week’s event on the back of a win at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow, plenty will be hoping he can become a three-time PGA champion come Sunday evening.
