PURPLE PATCH: Why the Tampa Bay QB really is the playoff GOAT
Last year’s Super Bowl winners the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still on course to defend their title and in talismanic quarterback Tom Brady they have no better player to help them navigate a smooth passage through the playoffs.
Brady takes some stopping at this stage of the tournament, with a record of 35 wins and 11 losses from 19 seasonal playoffs. His last playoff defeat came in his final game for the New England Patriots in 2019, before making the switch to the Bucs and guiding them through four playoff rounds last season.
In that campaign, Brady provided a huge 10 passing touchdowns, and after the Bucs recent defeat of the Philadelphia Eagles in this season’s Wildcard Round the veteran quarterback has 85 passing touchdowns to his name, 40 more than his nearest rival.
The Californian has also only thrown 38 interceptions in appearances during the playoffs.
Despite his 44-years, Brady seems to get better with age. He has completed more passing yards and thrown for more yards this season than in any of his previous 20 campaigns.
Expect him to add to his cumulative playoff total of 1,135 of 1,801 completed passes and 12,720 thrown for yards as the Bucs continue their march to Super Bowl LVI.
