SETTING THE SCENE: The key stats & figures ahead of the European Tour’s season ender in Dubai
The European Tour concludes with the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai this week.
Last season’s winner Matt Fitzpatrick will be looking to retain his title and in doing so record his second win on the European Tour this season, after victory in the Andalucia Masters last month.
No one has had more success on the 2021 European Tour than South African Garrick Higgo.
The 22-year-old won for a second time on the Tour when taking the Gran Canaria Open in April, shooting the lowest score over 72 holes this season of 25 under par.
He then followed up two weeks later when winning the Canary Island Open by this season’s largest winning margin of 6 shots.
Higgo also holds the record for most top-five finishes, with a fourth-place finish in the Austrian Open in addition to his wins in the Canary Islands.
The lowest 18-hole score this season was set by James Morrison, who began the European Masters in Switzerland with a blistering first round of 60, finishing 9 under par.
It wasn’t to be a third Tour win for the Englishman though, as three rounds of scores in the 70s saw him finish in 27th place.
9 under par was another record-breaking score in the Kenya Open, when Johannes Veerman shot a third-round score of 62, breaking the outright course record at the Karen Country Club in Nairobi.
In the 39 tournaments held this year on Tour, there have been 16 hole-in-ones, working out at just under a hole-in-one every second tournament.
Two of those belong to Frenchman Alexander Levy, who fired in on the 15th hole in the first event of 2021, the Abu Dhabi Championship, and then repeated the feat from 215-yards at hole 14 in the Kenya Open.
The Race To Dubai, which sees the highest points scorer crowned European Tour number one, is still on with a huge 12,000 points up for grabs in the concluding DP World Tour Championship.
Currently this season’s dual Major champion Collin Morikawa leads the way after amassing over 3,800 points from only nine tournaments.
His nearest challengers include Billy Horschel with over 3,600 points and world number one Jon Rahm with more than 3,400 points.
The trio are over 1,000 points clear of fourth placed Tyrrell Hatton and with Rahm sitting this week out, the race looks between the American duo as the season reaches its climax under the Dubai sun.
