WAKEA A DOWN ROYAL HIGHLIGHT: SHAMROCK’s best bet of the day runs in the opener on the Down Royal jumps card tonight.
Jumps action from Down Royal tonight and the best bet could well be Wakea in the opening maiden hurdle.
The five-year-old was a three timer winner on the flat and made a hugely promising start to his jumping career when a three quarters of a length second to Balzac Turgot at Limerick.
He travelled up well in that race and should be able to go one better on similar ground.
Don’t Be Hasty was also second on debut but hasn’t run since that effort at Wexford nearly a year ago. He was a 15 length second to Last Encounter who has run well subsequently in Graded races but it’s hard to know whether Don’t Be Hasty will be capable of reproducing that run after such a period off the track.
Although Crown Hill has a series of placed efforts, he has been well beaten in some of those races – although didn’t shape too badly when third at Tipperary and might be the biggest danger based on that form.
