SHAMROCK: We look ahead to a seven-race card at Gowran on Saturday.
Getting the day started is a seven-furlong event (1.35pm) where the Curragh maiden winner, Self Belief could show a bit of class. That maiden victory came in a competitive, 20-runner field, and with likely improvement his class could prevail.
The one-mile fillies maiden (2.10pm) can go to team Ballydoyle with their representative Delightful. The filly finished fourth on debut at the Curragh in what could turn out to be a nice piece of form and with that experience under her belt she should go well in this.
The one-mile maiden in race three (2.45pm) can bring up a quickfire double for Aidan O’Brien with Hippodrome expected to go well. The well-bred son of Galileo was green on debut at the Curragh last month when finishing fifth but will have come on leaps and bounds for that effort and is another than can finish closer with improvement.
A full field of 16 line up for the mile handicap (3.20pm) and Corballis Flyer can fight out the finish. The previous course and distance winner has a valuable seven pounds taken off by Cian Horgan, who is good value for his claim, and the gelding has been kept busy since his last win in June which has dropped him down to a very workable mark.
The Group 3 1m1½f (3.55pm) event is the feature race on the card and can go the way of Cigamia.The filly was a Listed winner at Killarney back in July before narrowly missing out in another Listed event at Cork. She should be able to bounce back here now she’s up slightly in trip.
The 1m1½f apprentice handicap (4.30pm) can go the way of Andrew Slattery and Heather Bear.The course and distance winner arrives here off the back of a hat-trick, however the filly might just have another win in her yet before the handicapper catches up.
Racing over the same 1m1½f trip in this 3yo+ maiden (5.05pm) Three Laws can go in for Jessica Harrington. A runner up the last day at Clonmel, the daughter of Wootton Bassett stayed on well, before eventually losing out to a better horse. There’s plenty of exposed types in this and Shane Foley’s charge just might have a bit of improvement in her.
The 1m4f closer (5.40pm) could be a flat race for a jumps horse. Ambitious Fellow has three wins to his name over timber and has been in great form this summer. The Peter Fahey-trained gelding has a bumper victory to his name so won’t mind this sort of race. If he has the speed to stay up with the gallop, his stamina could run the finish out of his rivals.
