CONFIDENCE REWARDED WITH 11/4 WINNING NAP: SHAMROCK couldn’t have been more confident about his ‘FIVE STAR NAP’ on Wednesday – BLOOD MOON WON 11/4 at Fairyhouse last night.

It’s a great feeling when one leaps off the page at you – and then goes at wins at a half decent price too.

As regular readers will know, I’m not one to sign off the articles in the style I did yesterday….

“A five star nap for me. I haven’t felt as confident for a long time – and 3.2 with BETDAQ at the time of writing a HUGE tempter.”

Apart from getting a slight bump at the start, the race panned out well. Blood Moon stayed on well inside the final furlong to win at 11/4. I said yesterday that I though 3.2 was generous so was naturally delighted with an on-course SP of 3.75 and if you followed the new BETDAQ XSP your winnings will have been boosted further with a superb return of 4.41.

Blood Moon also made it 6 WINNING NAPS FROM THE LAST 9.

Investec Oaks Day at Epsom and Minding is 2.2 on BETDAQ at the time of writing which is a price that was unthinkable two short weeks ago. We’re no where near the price of last year’s winner though – Qualify who was sent off at 50/1 and also hailed from Aidan O’Brien’s stable !!

Minding looked a superstar when winning the the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket but since then events have conspired against her and I must lay her today.

The ground is the biggest factor. She met defeat in the Irish 1000 Guineas when the ground was soft at the Curragh and whilst it’s not likely to be as testing in Surrey today it is still good to soft (soft in places) with the prospect of further showers.

Minding also broke a sinus when the stalls opened at the Curragh – race that was only 12 days ago.

We are all guessing about her ability to see out the 1m 4f trip. But this isn’t a normal 1m 4f trip.

  • It’s Epsom.
  • It’s a roller-coaster.
  • It’s a roller-coaster on testing ground

She is absolutely the class act in the race, there is no doubt about that but at 2.2 she has to be a lay on the ground factor alone.

I am switching to Leopardstown for the NAP. I thought the favourite Midnight Crossing looks vulnerable in the maiden at 6.35 and much prefer the chances of Crafted Jewel who was an excellent second to Pretty Perfect here last season. The winner went on to win a Listed race and be placed second in a Group 3.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Crafted Jewel (6.35 Leopardstown)
LAY: Minding (4.30 Epsom)
