SHAMROCK AT DUNDALK AND CHELTENHAM: SHAMROCK’s Friday NAP runs at Dundalk tonight and he also looks at the Irish challenge in the cross-country race at Cheltenham this afternoon.
At Dundalk tonight Sassy But Classy is trading just south of evens on BETDAQ for the maiden but I think there could be value in opposing her with Sgt Rock.
Sassy But Classy has had six chances without success so far with form figures of 542422. She went closest last time out at the track when beaten just a neck but that came over five furlongs. She is stepped up to six furlongs today and I think that makes her more vulnerable.
In contrast, Sgt Rock is less exposed having had only two starts and is stepping down in trip after two good efforts in third place. I think the drop to six furlongs will suit him as he has shown plenty of pace and at the respective prices can only be interested in him.
There’s once again a strong Irish challenge for the cross country race at Cheltenham this afternoon spearheaded by course regulars Big Shu and Uncle Junior who is only days away from his 14th birthday!
They are the only two course and distance winners – a big plus factor in a race as quirky as this. Preference is for Big Shu who went off as favourite on his reappearance in the Risk Of Thunder Chase at Punchestown but could only finish third. He should be better for that run and can come out on top today.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Sgt Rock (6.45 Dundalk)
NEXT BEST: Big Shu (2.40 Cheltenham)
