GROUP 1 ACTION AT THE CURRAGH: SHAMROCK heads to the second day of the Irish Derby Meeting at The Curragh this afternoon.
The Curragh stage a late starting afternoon card today and it will be interesting to see whether it is well attended.
Feature race on the card is the Group 1 Juddmonte Pretty Polly Stakes – now down to five runners with the defection of Happen and Who’s Steph. Plenty of non runners on the card with the drying ground.
Pink Dogwood is down in trip having being pipped by Anapurna in the Oaks at Epsom – she should again run her race and deserves to be favourite but there is a nagging doubt that her winning form, so far, has come with some juice in the ground.
Wild Illusion is a top class performer who has winning form on good and this appears to be her perfect trip. She was a little disappointing first time up this season when a beaten favourite in the Prix d’Ispahan and will need to come on for that run – which seems likely.
For the nap, I like Giga White in the handicap at 5.55. Still lightly raced, hopefully the first time blinkers will be a positive and there was plenty of encouragement from his seasonal reappearance at Naas when a three quarter of a length second to Ferretti.
