PIPPED: SHAMROCK’S NAP on Thursday – Ancient Spirit was pipped on the line at 9/4 in the Desmond Stakes. He bids to go one better at the Curragh today.

NEVER count your chickens …. I made that mistake yesterday, mentally thinking Ancient Spirit had done enough to win the Desmond Stakes at 9/4 but I didn’t reckon on the late rattle of Royal Dornoch – tipped up by DAQMAN at a fantastic 12/1.
As gutting as it was – I think I would have felt worse if I’d napped the evens favourite Agitare in the previous race who also looked to have the race in the bag before being nabbed on the line by 300/1 SP winner He Knows No Fear who became the biggest priced winner EVER in the UK or Ireland – the previous biggest record being 250/1.

The Ger Lyons trained runner has started favourite in all four of her starts to date , winning the first two and runner-up the last twice.
She’s a point and go type and should again have enough toe for Chief Little Hawk who has a full nine lengths to make up on course and distance form from June.
