SHAMROCK: Previews the big race at Newmarket and the chances of the Aidan O’Brien trained Bye Bye Birdie but prefers an O’Brien trained runner at Dundalk.

Aidan O’Brien sends Bye Bye Birdie over to contest the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes (formerly Cherry Hinton) at Newmarket this afternoon.

The two-year-old looks to have a tough task at face value. She was only 12th in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot behind impressive winner Rizeena who is in the field again today.

In Bye Bye Birdie’s favour is the fact that she bounced back to form at the Curragh last time out to make all the running and win a Group 3.

She now receives 3lb from Rizeena but I’m not sure that will be enough as Clive Brittain’s filly looks out of the top drawer. It’s a watching brief for me today.

O’Brien should land the last race on the afternoon card at Dundalk with Heirloom who improved on second start to finish third behind stable companion Venus De Milo at Fairyhouse. The winner has gone on to win a Listed race at Naas.

Heirloom should prove too strong for Ebadani who has been beaten at odds-on here before and long term maiden Wannabe Better.
