DUNDALK ON FRIDAY: SHAMROCK landed his first NAP of the year on New Year’s Day and bids for 2/2 at Dundalk tonight.
Irish racing back at Dundalk tonight and amazingly Cork looks set fair tomorrow despite horrendous weather in the area this week.
Ten millimetres of overnight rain has left the ground heavy for the meeting at Cork.
There is more rain forecast, but officials at the Mallow venue believe there are reasons for optimism.
A Cork spokesperson said: “We missed out on the very heavy rain in Cork city and we are totally raceable today.
“We were in a bad state earlier in the week, but the drainage on the course has worked very well.
“The forecast for the next 24 hours is mixed, with storms and scattered showers.”
At Dundalk tonight I’m napping The Firm in the opener.
Ratings can’t always be taken at face value in claimers – mainly because they are contested by horses generally on the downgrade and unreliable.
The Firm has upwards of 10lb in hand on the rest of the field and really gets the vote by default as he looks the best of a very modest bunch,
A reproduction of his close-up fourth in a handicap here in November should prove easily strong enough form.
