DUNDALK FRIDAY: SHAMROCK heads to the all-weather card at Dundalk tonight for his nap. The eight race card starts at 5.45pm.
I said it was dangerous to oppose a Willie Mullins runner and so it proved at Thurles yesterday. I took on the odds-on Don Poli who drifted to around 6 in running on BETDAQ but still managed to fight back to win by 1/2 length š
At Dundalk tonight, theĀ best bet on the card could come in the shape of Shield in the two mile maiden at 6.15. Trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Joseph, Shield won a bumper at Leopardstown last year but has failed to win subsequently when tried over hurdles. He did, however, run well when last seen finishing second to Sure Reef in a maiden hurdle at Leopardstown. Given the winner went on to win a Grade 2 at Leopadstown that form looks very solid.
He was a beaten favourite here in December when beaten by 25/1 chance Ballyadam Brook but than race came over 1m 4f and he will be much better suited by the extended trip here.
Dalasiri is another coming back from jumps to the flat but in his case it is his first spin out on the all-weather. He’s won two races over hurdles and is the obvious danger to the nap.
