BETDAQ PUNCHESTOWN CHAMPION HURDLE DAY: SHAMROCK previews the two Grade 1 races on Friday’s Punchestown card including the Betdaq Punchestown Champion Hurdle. His NAP yesterday won at 9/10.
Great Field landed the NAP yesterday winning the Ryanair Novice Chase in fine style.
Two Grade 1’s on Friday including the big one – the Betdaq Punchestown Champion Hurdle at 5.30pm.
5:30 Betdaq Punchestown Champion Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m, 11 runners)
Five runners from Willie Mullins and (excuse my arithmetic if I’m wrong) he’s around an even money chance to continue his domination of the race.
Last year’s winner Vroum Vroum Mag is back to defend her title – she was a 4/6 chance last year but a much bigger price in a stronger contest today and the fact that she comes on the back of a defeat at Cheltenham where she finished runner-up to Apple’s Jade having led at the last flight.
The interesting news line this morning has been the support of Labaik. He’s actually the top BETDAQ positive of the day – backers clearly thinking the price that layers were offering were starting to get daft and if he does consent to jump off on terms his price will immediately crash in play. It’s a really big ‘if’ though and if he’s in the same mood today, as he was on Tuesday, your ticket might not last very long.
Petit Mouchoir sadly misses the race due to a stone bruise and he was my alternative to Vroum Vroum Mag.
I’ll take a chance with English raider My Tent Or Yours to once again get a place. He hasn’t won since 2014 but usually runs a terrific race – he finished runner-up to Buveur D’air at both Cheltenham and Aintree and can again get a slice of it. He is my PLACE NAP on BETDAQ at around 2.4.
6:05 Tattersalls Ireland Champion Novice Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 9 runners)
Another competitive Grade 1 and preference has to be for Finian’s Oscar – another potential superstar for Colin Tizzard.
The five-year-old has a perfect 4/4 record with wins at Hereford, Sandown and Exeter which were followed up with his Grade 1 success last time out in the Mersey Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
PLACE NAP: My Tent Or Yours (5.30 Punchestown)
NEXT BEST: Finian’s Oscar (6.05 Punchestown)
