CORK NAP FOR SHAMROCK: After a shock outcome to the big race at the Curragh yesterday SHAMROCK heads to Cork for a nap in their maiden race at 5.15.
No joy yesterday but forgive me for not tipping up Flight Risk – the 50/1 winner of the Big Bad Bob Gladness Stakes at the Curragh !!
The shock winner, trained by Jim Bolger, took up the running inside the final quarter of a mile and stayed on well to beat 33/1 chance Piri Wango.
The nap, Sovereign Debt, was ultimately very disappointing.
Cork stage a flat card on Monday which gets underway at 4.45.
Araner may well be another winner for Dermot Weld in the five furlong maiden at 5.15. The three-year-old showed promise in two starts last season – here at Cork on debut when third and then was second at Navan when stepped down to the minimum trip. He showed plenty of pace that day and similar front running tactics look likely to be deployed today.
Weld also runs Rank here but Pat Smullen prefers the chances of Araner.
The Aidan O’Brien trained Eisenhower showed promise on his debut over seven furlongs at Gowran Park nine days ago but it is a little surprising to see this one dropped back in trip.
