IRISH GRAND NATIONAL DAY: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the big race of the day the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse (5.00) this afternoon.
Just the 13 runners from the Gordon Elliott stable in this afternoon’s Irish Grand National but his adversary Willie Mullins may hold the key despite ‘only’ having four runners entered.
Pairofbrowneyes has the look of a very well handicapped horse. He won the Leinster National on his first start for Willie Mullins since joining from the Barry Murphy stable and the resulting 9lb penalty he has to carry here might well mask just how well in he is.
He relished the testing ground at Gowran and it seems likely that the horse has found plenty of improvement since joining Team Mullins.
Mall Dini must also come into the reckoning after his excellent close second to Missed approach in the Fulke Walwyn, whilst another for my short list would be Oscar Knight who was second to the well handicapped Total Recall at Leopardstown last time out.
