SHAMROCK HAD SECONDITIS ON SUNDAY: Mallowney stole the headlines at Fairyhouse with a hugely impressive win in the Dan Moore Memorial.

I was consistent, if nothing else, yesterday.

Both tips finished second and both started at 15/8.

In fairness, I never had much hope with either. The Noel Meade trained Officieux never looked like being pegged back in the opener whilst nothing was ever going to beat Mallowney in the Dan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase – he won with ridiculous ease.

Winning trainer Tim Doyle said after the race: “He never runs a bad race but I thought he was exceptional today. He was up against Grade Two horses and beat them at his ease. He’ll go for the Newlands Chase at Naas at the end of February but won’t go to Cheltenham.”

In other news Vautour is expected to be back on the track for the Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase at Leopardstown later this month.

Winner of the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle last season, the Willie Mullins trained runner made the perfect start over fences at Navan but met with a shock defeat in the Racing Post Novice Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas.

Mullins said: “He wasn’t moving well on the day at Leopardstown. No real problem showed up afterwards and it was probably a bit of a tight muscle”.
