10 FROM 19 NAPS: SHAMROCK’s current naps remain over 50% with just one winner in the sequence going off at odds-on. His new week starts at Ballinrobe tonight.

Got that wrong. Or at least the formbook did. I didn’t see any obvious reasons why Air Force Blue should have turned around Coventry Stakes form with Buratino but Aidan O’Brien’s runner certainly did so in convincing style.

O’Brien said after the race: “He came forward well from Ascot. He won his maiden here and didn’t learn a lot, and was a baby going to Ascot. He settled, travelled and quickened up well today, and he was very professional. He put it to bed very quickly and he galloped out well. He has a few options now, including the Prix Morny.”

O’Brien had the 1-2 in the race with Washington DC finishing ahead of Buratino who was a well beaten third.

Also on Sunday there were great scenes down under when Ruby Walsh rode Bashboy to an unprecedented third success in the Grand National Steeplechase at Ballarat racecourse.

Walsh was riding in Australia for the first time and picked up the plum ride after regular rider Steve Pateman was ruled out through suspension.

Irish action this evening from Ballinrobe on expected soft ground.

I try to look for positives in most races but there’s no getting away from the fact that the Healy Mac’s At Breaffy House (C & G) Maiden Hurdle at 6.10pm is a truly dreadful contest.

My instinct was to look for reasons to get Red Jacket beaten, especially as he ran out at Roscommon last time out. But the more I look at the race I actually think he might well be a good thing in such a poor heat.
