SHAMROCK’S PERFECT WEEKEND: SHAMROCK is now THREE WINNING NAPS IN A ROW and ALL ODDS AGAINST. He bids for his FOURTH WINNING NAP IN A ROW today after 3/1, 11/8 and 11/8 winners.
The NAPS four-timers is on today after:
Fri: DON COSSACK (NAP) WON 3/1
Sat: EDELPOUR (NAP) WON 11/8
Sun: ZAWRAQ (NAP) WON 11/8
Zawraq completed the hat-trick in fine style when winning the 2000 Guineas trial at Leopardstown yesterday but there is still confusion as to where he is heading next.
Winning trainer Dermot Weld, who is in superb form said: “My immediate comment would be that I’ll discuss things with Sheikh Hamdan as he has a lot of horses in England entered in the Guineas. I’ve always considered him a horse capable of making into a Derby horse and the decision will be whether we go for the English Guineas or wait for the Derrinstown Derby Trial.”
Later on, there was the biggest high profile shock of the flat season so far when the John F Kennedy bubble was well and truly burst in the PW McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes.
The Aidan O’Brien trained runner went into the three horse race as the 1/4 favourite and was around 4/1 for the Investec Derby in June but had no answers when Success Days kicked clear early in the straight and he was then passed for second spot by the other runner Zafilani.
Tramore stage an evening jumps card and patience may be rewarded as the best bet looks to be Hot On Her Heels in the finale.
The Willie Mullins trained mare was well beaten by Alberta on her debut at Downpatrick but the winner looked smart and Hot On Her Heels finished nicely clear of the remaining runners.
