Sat: Race abandoned
Today’s meeting at Cork was abandoned this morning but Navan goes ahead on testing ground.
There’s an interesting bumper to conclude the card – the ‘Future Champions’ Flat Race at 3.35. The race has certainly lived up to its name in the past with previous winners including Don Cossack and Dunguib.
Four of the six strong field were winners last time out and the pick today has to be the Jessica Harrington trained Our Duke who sauntered home at 16/1 on debut by 21 lengths at Punchestown. The well beaten runner-up De Plotting Shed came out to win his next start easily at Fairyhouse. The form looks solid enough and we already know that Our Duke handles a testing surface.
Death Duty (Gordon Elliott) won a Down Royal bumper with ease and is certainly progressing the right way and looks the danger.
Feature race on the card, the Navan Novice Hurdle (Grade 2), looks at the mercy of the Willie Mullins trained Bellshill who was a Grade 1 bumper winner at Punchestown and impressed on his hurdling debut at Cork.
