WARRIOR TO STAKE CHELTENHAM CLAIM: Shamrock rates Bog Warrior highly and thinks Kempton not the only place where Cheltenham winners will be seen today.
It’s Warrior’s big one. They think they have all the Cheltenham winners at Kempton today. But we have two of the best youngsters in training at Leopardstown (Bog Warrior) and Limerick (Sir Des Champs).
Leopardstown: Bog Warrior (2.20) was stunning when he won one of our most prestigious young-chasers’ trials, the Drinmore, by 31 lengths.
Blackstairmountain will give Willie Mullins a line to Bog Warrior – but I doubt he has anything to match him – and David Pipe sends Notus De La Tour to test the Irish form.
I shall continue to follow Harold’s Cross (1.50). He is still massively (24lb) below his chase mark and takes his races well.
Though there is a huge word for J P McManus’s Celebrity Sevi (1.20), a Listed Flat winner, Sam Bass recaptured the front of the market on Betdaq in exchanges this morning.
Limerick: Sir Des Champs (2.10) has hardly been off the bit so far, winning the Martin Pipe easily and cantering up on his chase debut. It’s a delight here to see the mare Knockfierna in opposition, a year older and on the upgrade.
Sir Des Champs sidesteps the big Leopardstown meeting and I think he will continue to build up a sequence before Cheltenham.
Whiskey Hall (2.45), with stablemate Ponmeoath setting the pace, is my idea of a strong each-way bet. He was third in the race last year and has had two runs back to set him up.
Down Royal: Viking Splash (12.30) is my Down Royal banker, just returning to form. ‘Shark’ Hanlon has brought this one back to the boil for this occasion with a Points victory three weeks ago.
