NO FAME AND NO GLORY: The naps run was well and truly busted yesterday with Fame And Glory’s flop in the Gold Cup. It wasn’t all bad news though, the next best and only other bet of the day – Pedro The Great – won the opener at Leopardstown in style at evens.
Just when you thought Royal Ascot couldn’t get any harder the going is back to soft after heavy overnight rain and there’s an increasing number of non runners on the card.
On paper it should be a good day for Aidan O’Brien – his runners dominate the market in three races.
Astrology has leading rider so far this week Ryan Moore onboard in the King Edward VII Stakes at 3.05 and crucially has already proven he relishes the underfoot conditions. He romped home to an 11 length success (a fashionable winning distance on the flat this season !!) at Chester in the Dee Stakes on soft ground before going onto run an excellent race when third (nabbed for second on the line) to stablemate Camelot in the Epsom Derby.
DAQMAN has pointed out the poor record of Derby placed horses in this race which should be considered but there’s a longer gap than usual between the two races and Astrology is really hard to get away from with the ground change.
It was a little disappointing that Homecoming Queen couldn’t follow-up on her runaway 1000 Guineas success at Newmarket in the Irish equivalent but still ran well and stable companion Ishvana has boosted the form this week. Homecoming Queen certainly won’t be inconvenienced by the soft ground in the Coronation Stakes at 3.45.
Athen’s in the Queen’s Vase at 5.00 looks more vulnerable and is one of Aidan’s I’d be taking on today.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Astrology (3.05 Royal Ascot)
NEXT BEST: Homecoming Queen (3.45 Royal Ascot)
