NAPS ARE BACK: After a couple of reversals SHAMROCK got back on the winning trail with his naps with Sands Cove, a well backed 5/4 winner at Clonmel on Thursday.
I’m sticking at home at Dundalk on Friday but we can’t start without a word on the Irish challenge at Santa Anita tonight.
It’s day one of the Breeders’ Cup and Fame And Glory and Sense Of Purpose head up the Irish challenge for the Breeders’ Cup Marathon at 8.46pm racing on dirt over 1m 6f.
The distance won’t phase the pair but I do have a concern that they are arriving in California in not the best form at the tail end of the season and that’s before you start to question their ability to handle the dirt surface which they are both untried on.
Aidan O’Brien also runs Up in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf at 10.48pm and this will be partnered by Ryan Moore. Up has had a busy campaign with nine races and ran flat last time out in the Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.
There are two graded races on the card at Down Royal this afternoon. Missunited will be hard to beat in the 1.35. She has equal ability over both flat and jumps and is on for the hurdles hat-trick today having also finished second in the Irish Cesarewitch on the flat.
The WKD Hurdle at 2.05 has attracted six runners. Monksland, who did amazing work to finish third in the Neptune at the Cheltenham Festival having been seriously hampered and should get off the mark at the first attempt this season.
At Dundalk bet on the card could be Jim Bolger’s Iveta. Her racing career began in rather glamourless style when she veered right leaving the stalls and unseating her rider but proved she had ability at Gowran Park last out when second over seven furlongs and can get off the mark over the shorter trip here tonight.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Iveta (6.30 Dundalk)
