FOUR TREBLES UP AND SEVENTH NAP: On a day when it was worth perming the short shots in Ireland, Shamrock made it seven winning naps out of the last 10, and landed four winners and a second from five tips for trebles in his Daq Multiples.
SHE’S CALLED THE WINNER: His nap, Whatwillwecallher (WON 4-7), followed winning best bets at 1-2, 5-4, 4-9, 5-4, 11-4 and even money.
It’s a close encounter of the first, second and third kind. In other words, I rate Strange Encounter (1.40) a good thing for a place at Limerick, hopefully to put me on cloud nine.
Strange Encounter won the race off a higher mark three years ago, seems primed for a repeat after a run nine days back and is the only distance winner in this 21-furlong contest.
Punters have got it right four years running in the Munster Beginners’ Chase (2.45), but all four winning favourites were odds against.
With Willie Mullins beginning to capture championship form – you don’t want to hear me say again that I tipped Dorset Square – we have to stick with the consistent Bundle Of Fun (3.45).
It’s good to have Ruby Walsh back unscathed by the English Stewards! And I consider Bundle Of Fun back to his best trip here. Though he is prone to error and has managed only three places from 12 attempts over fences, it was a good run under an amateur last time out and Ruby should make the difference.
Gigginstown seems to have the second beginners’ chase sewn up, with jockey-in-form Davy Russell picking Gift Of Dgab (3.15) over Fists Of Fury.
Gift Of Dgab ran up against Jack Cool on today’s course over hurdles, and I take him to make a winning debut over the bigger obstacles today.
