‘GREAT’ NAP WHISPERED AT WOLVER: Shamrock goes in search of some unusual bets today, as he follows Irish raiders and Irish-breds away from home at Ffos Las and Wolverhampton, where there’s a ’great’ whisper napped in the nursery.
My Irish horses to follow list is building up nicely. Subject of big money in the last few days are Thousand Stars for the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle and now Mount Benbulben for the Neptune.
As I forecast for the son of Beneficial – sire of Cooldine and Realt Dubh – and grandson of Buckskin, ‘Ben’ won on stamina and will be even better stepped up to 3m. Stay with him!
Meanwhile, Gordon Elliott’s Beautiful Sound, placed at both the Cheltenham and Punchestown festivals, is the big whisper for the Welsh National, Carruthers or no Carruthers.
I’m looking for Irish-breds to dominate the better-class chase of the day at Ffos Las, top and bottom weight in the three-miler (2.20).
Song Sung Blue would eat these alive if coming back anywhere near his best, though, in receipt of 20lb, CD second Red Rouble will search out any fitness flaw.
I can do the same thing in the other Ffos Las chase (3.30), with Shannons Boy and Kilcommon Pride likely to fight out the finish at offers disparate enough to bet both.
Back to Beautiful Sound’s trainer, Gordon Elliott, who raids Wolverhampton four handed. He seems to have cornered the 2m-handicap prize (5.20) with Priors Gold and Sounds Of Thunder. That’s two against the field again, which seems to be my bet all day.
But I am also having two solo win wagers, both whispers: Redclue, another Irish-bred to win the seller (4.20), and Frederickthegreat (4.50), which I’m told to nap in his first nursery (4.50).
I’ll be getting my informant an early Christmas present or else I’ll be crossing him off my Christmas-card list. It’s one of those.
