FOUR DOUBLES UP IN TWO DAYS: It started off well enough with Sam Bass (WON 9-4) and Sous Les Cieux (WON 6-4) but then Shamrock’s second weekend yankee ran out of steam yesterday after the 23-1 treble on Saturday but the five winners included a 7-1 strike and gave him four doubles up in the two days.
Plumpton Gift Of Dgab (1.10) is a rare runner on this track for Tony Martin, who has been a bit short of strike with six horses place in the last fortnight but just one winner.
On what little they’ve seen, the handicappers, who have them 4lb apart over hurdles, see 19lb of daylight between them over fences; that’s a lot for ‘Dgab’ to live up to away from home.
Musselburgh It’s a long way to Tipperary from Musselburgh but John Finn has Peter Carberry over for the ride on Molinero (12.20), though the Oscar gelding is 0-29 under Rules.
Maybe he’s sharing some of the exes with another Tipperary trainer, responsible for Underdefloorboards (3.20) in the bumper.
But I would much prefer the Antrim raider, Mill Bay. Stuart Crawford has a one-in-four strike rate with bumpers and this one looks the part on breeding.
Lingfield Shaun Harley (Sovento) and Eoin Doyle (The Catenian) are not in much form right now but Sovento (3.00) was a Polytrack winning in England at a similar time last year, though in better form then.
Sovento was forecast at 12-1 in the Racing Post this morning, which is way off the mark. Are we to assume that the money is down, as even Betdaq offers of 3-1 have been taken after sustained support from 5-1.
Sovento is 3.85 as I write but I shall have a saver on Barney Curley’s Sommersturm. He’s got the form for it: tailed off over hurdles on his return last month!
