IRISH RACING RESUMES WEXFORD ON WEDNESDAY: So Shamrock takes a time out to reflect on Sunday’s stellar card at Fairyhouse.

6/10 could do better. Not a flashback to school reports of old, but more my tipping at Fairyhouse on Sunday.

On the plus side we were right to oppose Voler La Vedette with a lay in the Hatton’s Grace. She really has very quickly become a layers dream with form figures now of 22223.

On the average side was recommending a bet of Our Conor on the proviso you could get evens. He bolted home but as far as I can tell the only evens on the DAQ was available in running so I can’t claim that. Sometimes you can just be too clever for your own good 🙁

On the down side was the nap Dedigout – we never got in with a competitive chance after Ruby Walsh blasted away from the front aboard Arvika Ligeonniere in the Drinmore Novice Chase and ran out a hugely impressive 11 length winner. Great ride from Ruby – but I’m less sure about my pilot Davy Russell and the jockeys who were ridden to sleep by Walsh. Without decrying the performance of Arvika Ligeonniere (and trying to talk from mouth not pocket) he was gifted a huge lead and it’s not as if he was an outsider. He was the second favourite.

After the race winning trainer Willie Mullins said: Mullins said: “He was very impressive. He did it very well, his jumping was fantastic.

“He has a tremendous cruising speed and we wouldn’t be afraid to go back to two miles – that’s maybe his job.

“He was very fast over the first four fences. There was a few front-runners in it and they were all trying to make it.

“He has the jumping ability, along with the pace. Until we see that he’s not able to do it over two miles we’ll go that way first.

“He had a year off. He just had a little problem. With horses like him you just have to give them a bit of time.

“We’ll keep him running as much as we can and get all the experience we can with him. We’ll look at Christmas now (at Leopardstown).”
