LISTED ACTION AT NAAS: Just six runners for the Listed Woodlands Stakes at Naas this afternoon but the market is competitive and SHAMROCK has found a nap in the race.
Despite a small field the Woodlands Stakes looks competitive and the race has attracted five four-year-olds and the eight-year-old Santo Padre.
Of most interest is Spirit Quartz who heads over the Irish Sea from Robert Cowell’s yard in England and can plunder this prize. He won four times in Italy (including a Group 3 event) before joining Cowell.
He made his debut for Cowell in a Listed contest at Lingfield on the Polytrack and shaped really well in finishing a close second to Fratellino.
He may prove too strong for the home challenge here headed by The Reaper (winner) and Katla (third) who met in a recent Listed event at Cork.
The maiden races on the card have attracted big fields and in the 4.10 Atacx can build on a highly encouraging debut effort at the Curragh on his only start last season.
