A rewarding night at Dundalk last night with a return on all three recommended bets.
I was most pleased with the place lay of Starspangledbanner who finished fourth (perfect) at 3/1. Interesting to hear from Aidan O’Brien afterwards that the ex-Aussie horse is still an intended runner in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
The JRA Killavullan Stakes is the big race on today’s card at Leopardstown. The Group 3 race at 2.40 has attracted a field of eight including the Dermot Weld trained filly Big Break who really impressed over course and distance last time and fully deserves to take this step-up in class on her third start. She looked unlucky on debut at Galway but made no mistakes at Leopardstown quickening clear to beat Monaco Mist by four lengths. However, the second has let the form down in two starts since and, as promising as Big Break is, she might be worth taking on here at a BETDAQ price of around 2.22.
Aidan O’Brien has a good record in the race, as you would expect, including last year’s winner Nephrite. He sadlles Magician this year who seems to be going the right way judged by an easy win at the Curragh on testing ground last time out.
