LEOPARDSTOWN GO-AHEAD: This afternoon’s meeting at Leopardstown goes ahead after the course passed a morning inspection.
Well the run of naps came to a sudden end yesterday when Bangalore Diamond barely raised a gallop and was virtually pulled up at Dundalk last night having been sent off the 2/1 favourite. Most disappointing.
Leopardstown stage an excellent card today (and tomorrow) and we’re set fair for today.
Officials called a precautionary check for 8am due to the threat of further rain overnight and although 20 millimetres of rain did fall at the Foxrock venue, conditions remain raceable.
Leopardstown’s racing and operations manager Nessa Joyce said: “The meeting is on. We had 20 millimetres of rain up to around 10pm last night and then it cleared away, which was great news for us.
“It is looking like a good day today. It’s calm and mild at the moment and we’re looking forward to what should be a great day’s racing.
The Frank Ward Solicitors Novice Chase at 1.45 was originally scheduled for Sunday and was brought forward to today.
Arvika Ligeonniere should continue his progress over fences and give Willie Mullins another win – he is likely to win the first race too with Fatcatinthehat who was an unlucky faller at Punchestown last time out when falling at the last with the race at his mercy.
Inis Meain is undoubtedly well handicapped but even allowing for that looks short in the market for the Boylesports.com Handicap Hurdle at 3.20.
I’ve heard a good word for Willow Island in the last, the trainer has done well in this race in the past and the money for Le Vent D’Antan should ensure we get a decent price.
