SIX NAPS UP OUT OF NINE: Shamrock landed his nap yesterday with Unaccompanied (WON 1-2), following wins in the last nine days at 5-4, 4-9, 5-4, 11-4 and even money. His Saturday successs also included Cheltenham big-race scorer Dorset Square (WON 15-2).
CHELTENHAM Inspector Clouseau (2.20) was always getting it wrong. And Willie Mullins hadn’t been getting much right either, with a slow start to the season,until Dorset Square made up for it yesterday.
Now I think we might see the best of Inspector Clouseau, not punished on the heavy last time, and with his form-figures disguising his worth because the mud in Ireland is so often against him.
Mullins is double handed in the bumper but, rather than split my stakes there, I prefer to follow him at home at Navan.
LIMERICK Willie says Hammersmith (1.50) needs the run, which suggests that Whatwewecallher is a stand-out, yet odds against. I think I’ll put a wad of whatdoyoucallit on that one!
Charles Byrnes, another with a big outside chance at Cheltenham today with Jack Cool, should fire up multiple hurdles winner Knockfierna (3.00) over fenes after a sputtering start at Clonmel in a messy race.
NAVAN Boston Bob ((12.35) looks a Mullins good thing in the opener but I’ve learned the hard way with Mikael D’Hagunet (1.05) and Voler La Vedette should teach him some hurdling lessons as he preps for yet another attempt at a chasing career.
Mullins is sweet on Laganbank (1.40), dropping back to 2m on better ground today but, if he can beat Owega Star and Dylan Ross (six out of nine between them) he’ll be a star in the making. Tough to call.
Can I bet Forpadydeplasterer (2.50) will be second (he has been runner-up eight times in a row when he’s completed), and can I bet that Big Zeb bstuffs him and completes a hat–trick in the Fortria.
